fail during configuration

This sounds like a problem with your fedora install (or your use
thereof), not something related to gmp. I'd advise you to ask for help
on a mailing list or forum for novice fedora users. (I've rejected
your other message, since it was similarly off-topic for this list.)

By the way: 4.2.3 isn't exactly the latest version of gmp. If you do
indeed have a problem with gmp, the first thing to try would be to use
a recent version---but as I said, gmp is unlikely to be the problem
here.
